چکیده

The work deals with one of the topics of collective motion. In the frame of Nuclear Fluid Dynamics, a model which portrays the nuclear matter as a quantum elastic body, the torus-like motions and their associated energies are computed using the thirteen moment approximation. Such excitations correspond to the Hill vortex known from classical Hydrodynamics. There are also calculated the nonvanishing contributions of transverse electric form factors and differential cross sections in the electroexcitation of these collective modes, which are purely toroidal. The spin-dependent collective excitations, with toroidal electromagnetic structure, are studied by means of the Generalized Goldhaber-Teller model, with emphasize on the 1− spin-flip mode and its excitation in spherical nuclei by inelastic electron scattering. We discuss the importance of toroidal contributions in the inclusive electron scattering (e, e′) and exclusive coincidence electron scattering (e, e′γ). In order to extract the toroidal multipole, we use the backscattering angles in the first mentioned reaction, and the separation of the longitudinal/transverse interference in the second case. The introduction of a quantity which accounts for the deviations from the Siegert theorem, shows the importance of toroidal quadrupole transitions at high-momentum transfer. Another important result concerns the dependence of the intensity of toroidal effects on the nuclear vorticity.

Global Motions of the Nuclear Pore Complex: Insights from Elastic Network Models

The nuclear pore complex (NPC) is the gate to the nucleus. Recent determination of the configuration of proteins in the yeast NPC at approximately 5 nm resolution permits us to study the NPC global dynamics using coarse-grained structural models. We investigate these large-scale motions by using an extended elastic network model (ENM) formalism applied to several coarse-grained representations ...

Normal Mode Analysis of Trp RNA Binding Attenuation Protein: Structure and Collective Motions

The Trp RNA-binding protein (TRAP) has a toroidal topology and a perfect 11-fold symmetry, which makes it an excellent candidate for a vibrational study of elastic properties. Normal mode analysis in combination with correlation matrix calculations was used to detect collective low-frequency motions in TRAP. The results reveal the presence of highly correlated modes at the lower end of the spec...

Protein dynamics determined by backbone conformation and atom packing.

To study the factors determining the collective motions in thermal, conformational fluctuations of a globular protein, molecular dynamics simulations were performed with a backbone model and an atomic-level model. In the backbone model, only the C alpha atoms were explicitly treated with two types of pairwise interactions assigned between the C alpha atoms; atom-packing interactions to take int...

Theoretical Study of the Correlation between 14N NQCC and Its Partial Atomic Charge in Amino Derivatives of Adamantane

The electronic structures and the electrostatic potential of some amino derivatives of adamantane have been studied using the density functional theory. The partial atomic charges and nuclear quadrupole coupling constants (NQCC) of 14N nucleus of the considered molecules have been reported. The partial atomic charges are calculated with two methods for 14N nucleus: Mulliken charges and natural ...

Surmounting barriers: The benefit of hydrodynamic interactions

– We experimentally and theoretically investigate the collective behavior of three colloidal particles that are driven by a constant force along a toroidal trap. Due to hydrodynamic interactions, a characteristic limit cycle is observed. When we additionally apply a periodic sawtooth potential, we find a novel caterpillar-like motional sequence that is dominated by hydrodynamic interactions and...
